Based on the assessment of an expert committee, the profiled Tanzanian theologian Rev. Dr. Hoyce Jacob Lyimo Mbowe – who is currently working as Executive Director of the Mindolo Ecumenical Foundation in Kitwe, Zambia – has now been promoted to Professor in Theology. Dr. Mbowe’ s background is Old Testament/Hebrew Bible studies, with a B.Theol. from Tumaini University Makumira, an M.Phil. from the School of Mission and Theology (Norway) in 2003, a Ph.D. from the University of Bonn (Germany) in 2013, and finally a position as Postdoctoral Researcher at VID Specialized University (Norway) from 2015 to 2017. Based on her research she has published several important contributions to African strategies vis-à-vis Old Testament interpretation and with a particular focus on feminist perspectives, such as in her two monographs:

  • Feminist Expositions of the Old Testament in Africa (Tanzania) in the Context of the Office Held by Debora in Judges 4 and 5. Berlin: Logos Verlag, 2015.
  • Maasai Women and the Old Testament: Towards an Emancipatory Reading. New York: Peter Lang, 2020.
