Professor Knut Holter has been honored with a Festschrift entitled Context Matters: Old Testament Essays from Africa and Beyond Honoring Knut Holter. International Voices in Biblical Studies 16. Atlanta: Society of Biblical Literature, 2023.

The volume is edited by Madipoane Masenya (Ngwan’a Mphahlele) (University of South Africa), Marta Høyland Lavik (VID Specialized University), Ntozakhe Cezula (Stellenbosch University), and Tina Dykesteen Nilsen (VID Specialized University).

The 20 essays are split into seven thematic groups: 1: The context of African biblical hermeneutics (Ngwa, Mugambi, Masenya), 2: Reception in context (LeMarquand, Adamo, Stordalen, Bosman, West), 3: Justice in context (van der Walt, Nkabala, Olojede, Claassens), 4: Ecology in context (Elness-Hanson, Cezula and Nilsen), 5: Contexts beyond Africa (de Wit, Lavik), 6: Other forms of context (Jonker, Ådna, Kartveit), 7: Context indeed matters in biblical studies: The legacy of Knut Holter (Segovia), and finally a survey of Knut Holter’s life and work, and a postscript by Sigbjørn Sødal, Rector of NLA University College.
